SPEAKERSHIP: Betara denies being backed by Atiku, PDP chieftains

The lawmaker representing Biu/Bayo/Shani and Kwaya Kusar Federal Constituency of Borno State, Muktar Betara has denied reports which claimed he was being backed for the Speakership of the House of Representatives by Atiku Abubakar and some influential PDP chieftains including Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal and Yakubu Dogara.

Betara responded to the report which he said was untrue through the Director General of his campaign committee, Dickson Tarkighir.

He said the ill motivated and sponsored article which made it into the front pages of some national newspapers is shocking and disturbing, and obviously has one objective, which is to pitch his aspiration and his teeming supporters against his political party (APC).

Betara reiterated that he has an untainted, blemish free and enviable record of political party loyalty. He said his loyalty was expressed when he stepped down for Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila in 2019 and wholesomely backed him to win and ultimately run a harmonious 9th assembly House of Representatives till date.

He stated that his joining the 10th assembly Speakership race is to ensure that the 10th assembly House of Representatives will be one united, indivisible assembly that will work harmoniously with all arms of Government, particularly the Federal Government led by His Excellency, the President- elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to enable him meet the huge expectations of Nigerians.
